The Story of my life 11 and 12

This is what I call proper health care. I didn’t see this in my dream, somehow everything had changed. But I was still worried about what really happened to Kelvin after I blacked out. I was also worried about Sheila. I knew she would be waiting for me and probably may be disappointed because I stood her up.

I asked the Doctor if I could make a call.

“I guess you want to get in touch with your family…” Dr. Simmons asked.

“Yeah, they need to know I’m here.” I said.

A fist then followed an elbow, I didn’t even know where they came from. They all just landed on my face and the only thing I saw was blood coming from my nose. I became weak and even felt dizzy. I couldn’t see anything more. I didn’t know what happened. The last thing I saw was someone’s foot stamping on my face.

My dream seemed to be coming true and my life was at stake. I heard voices all around, people screaming and rushing in and out. I could hear them but didn’t see them.

As that moment, I didn’t even know whether I was alive or not, I did my best to save the situation but it seemed like I couldn’t prevent the dream from coming true.

“Speaking of that, don’t you think you will have a lot to answer to if the police get here and find out that you guys took the law into your own hands. Why don’t we call the police, then they can take the matter up rather than making things worse?” I said.

The angry mob began shouting, not in support of what I said. Out of nowhere, I received a slap on my face. They tried pushing me away from the door and that was where I began to realize that my dream was gradually coming to pass. Even though It was happening  in a different way, it was coming to pass. I feared for my life as the  crowd looked more aggressive than they were in my dream.

All they needed was a boost for the rest to join in. The slap was just the boost they needed.  In other to get me out of the way, they needed to do what they thought was the best, thus they took to beating the hell out of me.

The next thing I saw was myself at the hospital with a doctor attending to me. I could feel pains all over my body and that made me very weak. I tried sitting up but the doctor didn’t allow me. It was a she. Her voice alone made me forget the pain I was in. It was very tiny and sweet. She wore a pair of glasses and her lips were so nice that she actually looked like a goddess.

If I had to be sick to get attended to by this cute doctor, then let it be so. Let me be sick forever.

She began pressing my chest all over to see if I was feeling any pain there.

“Do you feel any pain?” She asked as she pressed gently on my chest.

I didn’t even get what she was saying. My mind had drifted far away. I was more focused on her ethereal beauty than anything she was saying.

“Mr. Ben, please do you feel anything, can you hear me?” She asked.

As if I cared about how I felt! I checked the name on her name tag, she was Dr. Amina Simons. A well-blended mix of foreign and local names. Amina  “Speaking of that, don’t you think you will have a lot to answer to if the police get here and find out that you guys took the law into your own hands. Why don’t we call the police, then they can take the matter up rather than making things worse?” I said.

Simmons, how about Amina Esan? When I finally get the ring on her finger, she will definitely bear my name.

Hey! What the hell is wrong with me? Am I thinking of marrying her without even knowing her?

I quickly snapped out of my reverie.

“Mr. Ben is everything alright?” She asked. She was getting worried that I was not answering her questions.

“Dr. Amina, I’m ok, I just feel some pains on my waist and back.” I answered.

She helped me turned around with my back facing her as she began examining my back and waist.  I felt her warm soft palms. It felt tender and good.

“Don’t worry, we have done that already, your phone is in our possession. We were able to reach the last person on your dialed list. I learnt she’s your sister, she is already on her way here.” Dr. Simmons said.

What a relief.  Now I had nothing really to bother about, half of my burden was gone. I then settled down to critically examine Dr. Amina Simmons in my mind. She paused at different times to write in my file as she continued to examine me. I observed her legs. Her calves were very fleshy and pleasant to the eyes. Even though she wore the Doctor’s coat or whatever they call it, I could actually visualize how curvy her body was.

Hold on, did you just hear that? “a gentle man like me”. Another tune popped up in my mind, “After the Reggae Play the Blues”

That was the least I could do. I saw him off to the main gate and went back inside to prepare for my meeting with Sheila.

After he left, I thought of my dream from the previous night and also of Kelvin’s coincidental visit which followed subsequently. Well, I didn’t believe in superstitions but the dream really ate me up.

I blamed it on the movie I watched  before sleeping off. It was a Ghost movie, perhaps, it influenced my dream. This could be a mere coincidence. That’s what I thought. Afterall I didn’t follow Kelvin to wherever he was going so all those things that happened in my dream could not come to pass.

The next place I looked was her left finger, her ring finger. Bingo! There was no ring. She ain’t married either.

In my mind, I was dancing to this music “Oh Happy Day”. But come to think of it… This lady is a medical doctor and who am I? A High school graduate. I quickly dismissed the thought. That was not a problem at all. I figured I could continue with my schooling now that I knew my dad. Thankfully he is well-to-do and very capable of taking care of my education.

Dr. Simmons all of a sudden asked a weird question. “Mr. Ben, can you tell me your occupation?

I finished with my preparation and set out. Upon getting to the main gate I saw Kelvin running towards me. He was being chased by a group of people who I didn’t even know.  He ran towards me with the people chasing him behind. It didn’t happen exactly like it happened in the dream but how could I avoid this? Kelvin just came and stood behind  me, depending on me to save him from the crowd.

Within a few seconds, I and Kelvin were surrounded  by the crowd.  I was then caught up in another dicey moment: Should I deny Kelvin and hand him over to these men who really looked harmful or stand beside him at the expense of my own life?.

Aside the weird dream, Kelvin had really been a good friend to me. He had helped me severally in my times of need.  Where no one would listen to my pleas let alone give a helping hand, I could always count on him. Hmmmm, was this the best way to repay him for all the help he had given me??

I was the one whom he chose to run to for help. I didn’t think that the best I could do was to hand him over to these men to do whatever they wished just because of a dream I had.

“Where did that come from? Is that part of my medical condition or what?” I asked myself. Besides, what answer am I supposed to even give her.

“Do you know Tunde? The guy who lives just across the street?” One of the men responded.

“Yeah I do, the guy who deals in motor spare parts.” I said.

“Exactly, this Kelvin guy just smashed his head against a wall and as I’m talking to you now, he is not among the living, get out of our way before we treat you as an accomplice.” He said.

It was as if I had just won the ultimate prize in the “Who wants be a billionaire” TV show. However, before I could answer as her, she then placed her hand on my forehead to check my temperature. I didn’t know what came over me at that moment… I held her hand and there was this awkward silence.

As if she knew what I was thinking she said. “I just asked because I was wondering why gentleman like you would be in involved with such an angry mob.”

What if these men ended up killing him just the way they did to me in my dream? Then Kelvin’s blood will be on my head? Would I then spend the rest of my life living in guilt? Do I prefer living my life as a murderer or be murdered instead?.

I came up with a plan; I sought for a way to save Kelvin and still hand him over. I opened the door for him to go into my room and closed the door right after him.

The men threatened to harm me if I didn’t give up Kelvin. I was wondering  what he had done for them to be chasing him with clubs and sticks, so I asked.

We looked into each other’s eyes as I held her hand, neither of us blinking. Was there a connection or was it just my mind? Just then, Sheila barged into my ward, interrupting the whole vibe.
